B.Sc., Biotechnology (No. of Seats – 40)

Biotechnology is an advanced and most developing area of life sciences, touching new grounds and making new records in the process of providing a better living in a natural way, under all circumstances. Biotechnology itself is an application subject based on the Microbial, plant and animal resources in our planet and hence, knowledge on Plant, Animals and Microorganisms are indispensable for a successful career in Biotechnology. Which is why, B.Sc., Biotechnology at National College is Unique with more emphasis on the subjects of Botany, Zoology and Microbiology for better understanding of the fundamentals and with practical experience of technological innovation and concepts to mould a Biotechnologist in you.
Students find a perfect blend of the basic knowledge and advanced learning experience with practical training in high end state-of-the-art facilities like NCIF (with GC-MS, FT-IR, SEM-EDS, Flow Cytometer), Class 1000 Clean Room Facility for Animal Cell Culture, Fermentation Facility and more.

M.Sc. Biotechnology programme comprising of four semesters, offered at National College will provide the necessary theoretical background, practical training in Fermentor operations, Animal Cell Culture Techniques and high end instrumentation like GC-MS, HPLC, FT-IR, AAS, Flow Cytometry, Scanning Electron Microscope etc, that are essential qualities for industrial placements.

Post Graduate Diploma in Bioprocess Technology (No. of seats - 12)

PG Diploma in Bioprocess Technology programme offered in two semester, is sponsored by UGC, New Delhi, under the Innovative Scheme. This is a two semester programme in which the curriculum is designed to give complete training in Fermentor operations, Industrial processes, cell culture based techniques and production, Advanced instrumentation training in GC-MS, HPLC, FT-IR, AAS, Flow Cytometry, Scanning Electron Microscope etc to ensure 100% placement. Low fee structure for a high-tech training programme in the state-of-the-art laboratory at National College Instrumentation Facility (NCIF) which is a research annexure of the PG and Research Department of Biotechnology. Practical training in wide range of bioreactors such as Stirred-tank bioreactor, photobioreactor, fluidized bioreactor and air-lift bioreactors and different modes of processes such as batch, fed-batch and continuous bioprocesses help students equip to industrial needs. Off-campus placement assistance help achieve 100% placement in industries after the successful completion of the programme.

Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Trial Management and Regulatory Affairs (No. of seats – 25)
This two semester internship based weekend programme is offered as a concurrent programme for those students pursuing M.Sc., Biotechnology or PG Diploma in Bioprocess Technology. This programme provides an exclusive opportunity for the students to get employed even before the completion of M.Sc., Degree programme. Students are trained at hospital sites (on-site training) in real time projects handled by the consortium clinical research pvt. Ltd. during the semester holidays. Owing to high demand for trained candidates in clinical research projects being undertaken at various hospital sites, candidates are readily provided with employment.  Classes for this programme is handled by the Clinical Research Officers (CRO) or Clinical Research Managers operating at various hospital sites in the projects. To spearhead the academic training in Clinical Research, Consortium Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore (www.consortiumcr.com) has signed an MOU with National College (Autonomous), Tiruchirapalli (www.nct.ac.in) to make Clinical Research training available and affordable to the nearby college students.  The Under Graduate / Post Graduate students of Lifescience (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology & Zoology), Medical Science (MBBS, BHMS, BAMS, BSMS & BPT), Pharmaceutical Science and Paramedical Science can enter into this emerging field and get benefited by establishing a progressive career not only by entering into Medical Research field but also developing Management capabilities and achieve senior positions in Clinical Research Project Management. Students from other institutions are also encouraged to join this academic programme during the weekends which make it possible during their main course of study.

M.Phil. Biotechnology (Full-Time/Part-Time)

M.Phil in Biotechnology is a prelude for research career. It provides ample opportunities to set goals in research and improve research skills and aptitude.
The duration of the M.Phil programme shall be a minimum period of one year for full- time and two year for part-time candidates. The dissertation should be submitted at the end of first year/second semester in the case of full-time candidates and at the end of second year/fourth semester in the case of part-time candidates. The course of study for the M.Phil Program shall consist of three written papers under Part-I and dissertation under Part-II.

Ph.D. Biotechnology (Full-Time/Part-Time)
PhD programmes are based on individual research projects that last 3 or 4 years, working with a specific academic supervisor (principle investigators). Applicants are specifically matched with a principle investigator based on their research interests and background. As genome projects for animals, plants and microorganisms continue to advance, new opportunities arise which offer huge potential benefits in healthcare, agriculture and the environment, through the production of new drugs, novel crops and bioremediation.
